rainy day road trip

i love the rain.
so for me, a rainy day road trip was the perfect
way to spend a friday with my two favorite dudes.

we were headed to connecticut to
and while the ride was a bit treacherous at times
due to the weather,
it was definitely worth the trip.
we left early,
so when we rolled through kent's little village
(read: cutest town ever)
everything was, sadly, closed...
but, we made a mental note of places to stop at
on the way back home.

when we arrived at the park,
we were the only car in the lot!
at 8am on a rainy friday this wasn't a surprise to us,
but we were happy to have the place all to ourselves.
(and grateful that there were public restrooms on site
after a 3 hour drive out)
finley was beyond excited to get out of the car and start exploring.
since he hung his head out the window for 90%
of the ride, he was already drenched...
(see above photo)
the walk up to the base of the waterfall wasn't difficult at all.
altho it was a little bit slippery underfoot because of the rain.
we were surprised—and impressed—to see how well kept the grounds were.
the man-made stairs made ascending easier with finley,
and it was a great leg workout too :o)
((in lieu of the stairs, there was also a dirt path to follow
which we took on the way back down))

finley, the eager explorer!

climbing up led to different views of the waterfall and park.
some landings had a platform to look out from
while others allowed you to continue walking out
towards the edge of the waterfall.
the views did not disappoint!

after we made the trek down
i was so excited to head back into town for a snack.
we'd passed a chocolate shop, and truly, what kind of
chocoholic would i be if i didn't stop in for some?

ready for the most devastating moment of the entire day?
the chocolate shop had moved.
cue: heartbreak.
apparently it was further back, and we'd already passed it.
(if you're heading that way,
i was told the chocolate shop moved
up by fife & drum

so, back home we headed,
chocolate-less.
but we did have a pretty impressive accomplishment....
we managed to wipe out
the notoriously exuberant finley!
he laid down in the back seat
the entire. way. home.
successful day (despite lack of chocolate) and trip!
we'd definitely recommend a trip, and
we would definitely go back to kent falls again.

xx
